Biggest ordeal that can befall our country and people is war, and we have avoided this biggest ordeal. We prevented war, saved our country peacefully and wisely - Garibashvili

Biggest ordeal that can befall our country and people is war, and we have avoided this biggest ordeal. We prevented war and saved our country peacefully and wisely. Such a statement made the Prime Minister of Georgia, while presenting the annual report of the Government.

“The August war [2008] was certainly a great tragedy for our country. I would also like to point out that, unfortunately, the then irresponsible Government could not avoid this war.

I have repeatedly said that if Bidzina Ivanishvili and Georgian Dream had been in power in 2008, this war would not have happened. Recently, we have been open with our community about the risks we face. The danger was quite real. It wasn’t made up.

There was a threat of destabilization of the country, radical groups inside the country and hostile forces were directly interested in dragging the country into this war situation.

I will not remind you of the facts, we all know everything very well. We should be proud to say that our government made decisions based on the interests of our country and people. The biggest ordeal that can befall our country and people is war, and we have avoided this biggest ordeal. We prevented war and saved our country peacefully and wisely.

We won this victory together. I am far from thinking that these risks are completely neutralized. Naturally, these risks have not gone anywhere, but we assess the risks with maximum caution and intelligence, identify threats, implement appropriate prevention measures and protect the population of our country”, - said Irakli Garibashvili.
